Prof. John Eade | Conflict Management and Resolution | Research Excellence Award

Professor John Eade is an Emeritus Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the University of Roehampton, London, and an internationally recognised scholar in migration, ethnicity, nationalism, religion, tourism, and cultural heritage. Educated at the University of Oxford and Birkbeck College, University of London, he holds advanced degrees in history, social anthropology, and sociology, including a PhD focused on community politics and migration. His academic career spans several decades, during which he has held senior roles as Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Reader, Professor, and Executive Director of CRONEM, where he provided strategic leadership in multidisciplinary research, consultancy development, and international collaboration. He has led or contributed to major projects funded by ESRC, AHRC, Leverhulme Trust, British Academy, EU programmes, Volkswagen Stiftung, and Heritage Lottery Fund, and has advised government bodies, research councils, and cultural institutions. His research interests centre on migration and diaspora, nationalism and multiculturalism, religion and pilgrimage, urban sociology, identity politics, and tourism studies. Professor Eade has received recognition through prestigious research grants, senior advisory appointments, and extensive doctoral examining roles worldwide. His work has made a lasting contribution to academic leadership, research capacity building, and policy-relevant scholarship across global contexts.
